Cultivate at Scale Announces Bioprocessing Collaboration to Accelerate Cellular Agriculture Innovation
Maastricht, The Netherlands – June 5, 2025
Cultivate at Scale, a pilot facility established to facilitate the cellular agriculture industry in developing scalable solutions for sustainable food production is proud to announce a new collaboration with Sartorius, a leading international partner of life sciences research and the biopharmaceutical industry.
This initiative brings together Sartorius’ bioprocessing expertise and Cultivate at Scale’s mission to industrialize cultivated meat, fish and dairy alternatives, creating a powerful platform to prepare, explore, and facilitate the next generation of food innovation. The collaboration is grounded in a shared vision: to make process development and scaling up more efficient, faster, and accessible for companies in the alternative protein space.
Cultivate at Scale is now equipped with a 1000L single-use bioreactor from Sartorius. This serves as a catalyst for innovation, enabling the Cultivate at Scale team to accelerate their development pipeline and move toward industrial-scale production.
Through this collaboration, Sartorius will provide access to a broad range of its technologies, training, and scientific expertise. Together, the two companies will support the scaling of cultivated food production - bridging the gap between laboratory and commercial viability.
“At Cultivate at Scale, we measure success as the extent to which we can help our customers develop their processes and reach the next level of scale. Access to the necessary expertise and hardware is a key factor in achieving this. The collaboration with Sartorius demonstrates how partnering across industries can drive innovation and sustainable change, and how the right support can empower bold visions to become reality.” - Jaco van der Merwe, Managing Director of Cultivate at Scale
About Cultivate at Scale
Cultivate at Scale is a pilot facility that supports companies and institutions active in cellular agriculture, such as the production of meat, fish, dairy, leather and other animal or plant products through cell culture, in the scale-up and optimisation of their production processes. It provides the infrastructure, equipment and expertise for scale-up, including laboratory and production spaces, bioreactors and other technologies that contribute to the industrial production of products within the cellular agriculture field.
In addition to supporting cell culture companies, Cultivate at Scale collaborates with suppliers and equipment vendors to demonstrate the suitability and economic viability of their solutions, whether showcasing innovative technologies or proving performance in process scale-up.
